THE JM AUTOMATED MODEL RAILROAD

Back in the fifties, the toy I enjoyed the most was my first electrical train set. In the seventies, I became a Signalling and Communications Engineer and was very fortunate to live through the evolution of the railroad signalling technology from the relay-based fixed block interlocking to the computerized moving block systems. This signalling career led me to my retirement hobby: the automation of model railroad. The purpose of this website is to share my railroad interest with others.

This site explains the design of an automated model railroad that offers the safety of the railway traffic, the specification of programmed train trips and the creation of railway timetables. The software and the hardware (to the exception of the computer parallel input/output cards) are homemade and independent of the network topography.
