SHINGLE
MILL
Cedar shingles are part of Canada's heritage. Until
the introduction of the first shingle mill, the
Arcadians as earl as the 17th Century were hand-cutting
shingles
to build their homes.

Few Canadians today have seen a
cedar shingle roof. Fewer still
have have employed the centuries
old process of covering a roof with wooden shingles. Yet
within-living
memory such roofs were as
common to rural Canada as those covered by today's asphalt shingle.
